You’re a solo business owner with a strong service and loyal clients. But somehow, your online presence just isn’t getting the customers calling in. The clicks feel low, and you’re not getting the enquiries you expected. Sound familiar?

That’s exactly where Abandon Stress Mobile Massage found itself.

They have a strong reputation and great Google visibility, but when we took a closer look, we spotted two quick but costly issues. In less than a minute of actual work, we made two changes that helped:

  • More than double their click-through rate (from 2+% to over 11%)
  • Draw more engaging traffic to their site.e
  • Set the stage for even bigger growth.

Here’s the breakdown.

Quick Solution 1: Securing the GMB Link for Trust and Traffic

The Silent Conversion Killer : HTTP in Google Business

Abandon Stress ranked well for “mobile massage Daylesford” and related terms, thanks to years of excellent service and a strong presence. But the Google Business Profile (GMB) was quietly pointing to:

http://abandonstress.com.au

And that, for most visitors, led to a “Not Secure” warning before the website even loaded.

Traffic loss due to insecure HTTP site links.

Yikes. Instant bounce. Lost lead.

We dug into performance insights and found that over half the traffic from Google was hitting the insecure version of the site and likely leaving before they even got to see the homepage.

The Fix : Switching to HTTPS

This correction took 10 seconds, and cost zero dollars to implement.
The business owner simply updated the Google Business Profile to point to:

https://abandonstress.com.au

The secure version was already in place. It just wasn’t being used in the GMB listing.

The Result : CTR Up, Trust Restored

Less than 24hours after the change went live:

  • Visitors reached a secure, SSL-protected site.
  • No more browser warnings
  • Instant credibility boost
Before the change 4% CTR in Google Search Console – Last 28 Days
Graph showing CTR increase in 24 hours.
After the change 111.7% CTR in Google Search ConsoleLast 24hours

It may seem small, but this one fix directly increased click-throughs by 50%, reduced bounces, and let the business put its best foot forward on the very first click.

Quic Fix 2 : Meta Tags: Optimising for Conversion and Search

The Problem Dominating organic search but low traffic and click-through on the pages showing up in search.

The meta title and description for Abandon Stress were missing their full potential.

The wording appeared more like a directory listing; it was too long to fit in SERPs and appeared rather generic. It needed to be changed to highlight customer-focused value/benefits and local relevance (like Daylesford or “mobile massage” directly in the title).

The Update : Writing for Humans, Not Just Robots

We quickly assessed and reworked the meta title and description using key conversion tactics:

  • Use location and service clarity: “Mobile Massage in Daylesford : Day Spa, Massage, and Accommodation.”
  • Include benefits or unique value.
  • Align the description with what people actually search for and click on.

These changes are small and quick, often just 155 characters or less, but incredibly powerful.

Possible Setbacks – When Google Rewrites Your Titles

Even with well-optimised meta tags, you can’t always control exactly what shows in search results. Google sometimes rewrites your title tag if it thinks another piece of on-page content is more relevant to a searcher.

Take the example of Abandon Stress’s contact page. While the SEO title was set correctly in SEOPress, Google chose to display “Contact Rosi” in the search snippet instead.

Why does this happen?

  • The page heading (H1) says “Contact Rosi,” so Google assumes that’s most relevant.
  • If the SEO title is too long, too short, or is too similar to another page on the site, Google may override it.
  • For contact or location pages especially, Google often prefers plain titles like “Contact” or “Location” for clarity.

This doesn’t mean your optimisation work is wasted, your title tag still influences rankings. But it does mean you should align your H1 heading and SEO title where possible, so Google is less likely to rewrite them.

If you really want your high-conversion, SEO-optimised title and meta description to appear in search, and Google keeps rewriting them, it’s often a sign you should revisit and re-write the on-page content to align more closely with your tags.

Expected Result: Stronger Clicks, Better Engagement

  • CTR should improve further (we would anticipate it increasing from around 2.5% to around 20% with the meta tag updates if they get applied
  • Traffic should stay longer and view more pages – becuase the tags are more relevant to the users.
  • The new snippet should stand out better on desktop and mobile search results.

Combined with the secure site link, the results should be fast and measurable.

The Combined Impact : Small Effort, Big Wins

These changes took less than 5mins combined. But the payoff so far?

  • CTR increased from 2% to 11.12%.
  • User traffic grew sharply 2 to 8 New users*.
  • Visitors trusted the site again.
  • More leads, more sessions, more value.

Sometimes, it’s not about a total website rebuild; it’s about removing the invisible blockers.

Graph showing user increase from 2 to 8.
New Users Increased by 6 in just 24 hours but there isnt enough analytics data to really prove this increase via this metric alone (becaause we only just set up analaytics on the site.) however when combined with the CTR rates in Search Console it does look promising.

We’ve mapped out a few more minor upgrades for Abandon Stress, things like

Small Business Website Conversions: Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What made updating the link to the Google Business Profile so important?

The old link sent people to the unsafe version of the site (http://). People were getting “Not Secure” warnings and leaving right away. Changing it to the secure https:// version built trust and stopped the instant bounces.

Q2: How long does it take to see results from changes like these?

It was easy to see improvements in CTR reports for Abandon Stress right away. It can take a few hours to a couple of days for changes to your Google Business Profile to show up on all of your devices. However, traffic patterns often change quickly after the change goes live.

Q3: What should I do if Google does not show my meta title and description?

If Google thinks the content on the page is more relevant, it may rewrite the titles and descriptions. Make sure your H1 headers, content, and meta tags all match to reduce this. If Google keeps overriding your tags, you might want to rewrite the content on your page to better support them.

Q4: Do I need an expert in SEO to do things like this?

Not Really, but it can be a much faster process with expert advice to point you in the right direction. In this scenario the business owner updated their own link within a few minutes of receiving my email and while I updated the meta tags for her its an easy text replacement update if you know where to look.

Q5: What do you do next after making small changes?

Quick wins are great for making things better right away, but bigger strategies are what will help your business grow over time. These include making calls to action clearer, making landing pages that are better for SEO, and speeding up your site. We will talk about the upgrade plan we came up with for Abandon Stress to get even more conversions in our next article.
