How thoroughly a single knowledge domain is covered across your website
Depth is about coverage of a single topic: how thoroughly does your site cover this knowledge domain?
This is also where maturity levels (Entry → Expert→ Industry Authority etc) can help measure this.
Per topic, you’d look at the maturity scores of each article that has that topic as Primary or Secondary, then derive a topic maturity score from the distribution.
A topic with 8 articles all at Entry level has low depth despite high content volume.
A topic with 2 articles one Expert, and one thought leader, has meaningful depth despite low volume.
The signal you’re looking for is: does the site have enough depth in this topic that a search engine or LLM would consider it a reliable source on this domain? That’s an authority threshold question, not a count question.
You can track maturity level per article, with a primary topic tagged. The topic-level maturity score rolls up from article maturity weighted by whether it’s primary (full weight) or secondary (partial weight).
